GETTING YOUR HOME READY FOR AUTUMN

As the nights start to draw in and temperatures start feeling cooler we’ve put together some top tips to prepare your home for Autumn….

Protect your pipes!

Water pipes are most likely to burst during cold weather spells and especially when homes are left empty

Going on holiday?

Programme your central heating to come on for a few hours each day.

Insulate...Insulate...Insulate

Insulation is the key element that could stop your pipes freezing, the more insulated they are, the better protected they’ll be.

Reduce drafts

Look for small gaps around windows, fireplaces and TV and telephone wires where cold air could be coming through and seal these.

Keep your gutters clear

Remove any leaves located near gutters to prevent them from falling into the drain pipe and blocking them.

Get your boiler serviced

You don’t want to have any problems with it when you will need it the most!

Sweep your chimneys / Clean Fireplaces or Logburners

If your chimneys / fires are in use, make sure that they get swept and cleaned every year. This will remove the build-up of dirt and grime from your chimney walls and prevent soot escaping.

Declutter

Donate all your unwanted clothes to charity and have a good clear out of your kitchen cupboards too. You can drop your garments off at clothes banks in supermarket car parks and donate all your in-date but unwanted food to food banks, where those in need can make use of them.

Finally….Sit back and light your favourite scented candle, we are big fans of winter berries or cinnamon and orange scents at this time of the year!
